vocal training
« on: 09/24/05 at 1:02am »

what do u think?
every metal vocal in the egyptian metal bands should do vocal training before he plays in a gig.
because everytime i attend a gig i find a vocal that dont know shit about singing.
it is very important for the vocal to practice just like that guitar player and the drummer 3ashan el vocal dah taba2at sooto 3amla zay el aaala el moseekya (bruce dickinson, chuck billy mas7ooosh men el noom la2o nafsohom bey3'ano keda lazem voice training we ta3ab ebn kalb)
how many times have u heard a good band and a bad vocal?
ana seme3t keteeer awi.
there is audio things on the internet teaching u how to sing.
there is a lot of books teaching u how to sing.
7ata el brutal leeeh voice training.
el vocals hena beyla2o sothom 7elw ma3 el o3'nya yob2a 7'alas we mabye3melsh vocal training.............tab leeeeh?
if anybody wants ay 7'eda fel 7waar el vocal training contact me plz......we ana hageblo naas yesa3dooh aw a2olo 3ala 7aga ye2raaaha.
we matensooosh en el vocal howa eli awel 7aga el audience beyntabeho leeha we howa soooret el band el ooola.

the same goes to singing.
also there is something called talent but u have to practice cause talents is not enough for u to be a pro. vocals.

to control your breath and make it longer u need to do some breath control exercises...........it's very very easy.
just search on the net and u'll find a lot of exercises for ur breath.....the most popular one which every vocal use is the SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs......like a snake.....just search for breath control techniques on google....

about the breath length. i find it hard to smoke or shayesh or 7ashesh n be a vocalist.  n i disagree with vocalists who gets into BLACK directly FIRST  u have  to improve ur scales . strengthen ur octaves n add to em.. anormal man has 2 1/2-3 octaves .. n the BLACK singing doesnt need a beautiful voice just a strong throat which is easier to make than  a tony smooth voice

Well metal heads, vocal training is a very important thing a vocalist should care about, coz there are notes even low or high needs alot of traing, it is like a guitar solo u cant just play it from the first time u might be practicing on it for 100 times to be fine, so vocaling is the same idea.

KVLTO, it's "pop thinking" to practice your singing and trying to improve? What so you'd prefer if all the bands just had shitty singers? In one way your voice is like an intrument - it's not something you can do by nature, like Sammy said, it takes practice and experience. Also, generally speaking, it's harder to teach yourself to sing than than to teach yourself to play an instrument.

doing vocal training doesn't stop you being able to drink, and even if it did, wouldn't you rather have a good singer who didn't drink than a crap drunk?  Where is the logic in your thinking? Being in a band is about the music, not the image or drinking all the time. Roll Eyes

I'm just trying to say, there's no excuse for not practicing, no matter what instrument you play. I didn't mean it as an insult, but when you listen to a band, what is most important to you? How they sound or how they dress and act?

i think training is really important and critical 4 every vocalist but for brutal singing it's not that hard it's just hard at the start when turning your fake notes to right ones then when you know from where to sing it's easy. but clean is hurting every time you get a headache you can't bear then you just stop for a while and lose notes you have got also a hint is that u can't just get a cromatic voice i mean you will not get every note after the other u will have problems but good luck

urm well man i havent rli heard u so i cant judge but i reckon u should get some proffesional vocal training it could help and make originals u know? sometimes wen ppl play covers they compare u to the original bas ur voice could b gr8 for a certain genre,

or if u think ur much better at playin lead then u could focus on that and become gr8 on it u know? but in the end its up 2 u.  and bisara7a lead + vocals is rli hard but its awesome that u do that man Wink but c wat suits u in terms of focusin on vox or lead or doin both.

i think so for example i dont think a bm vocalist would suit heavy metal or a rap metaller over a death metal track its very subjective however some try both i mean one band i find very good would b danzig (the ex vocalist from the misfits) he had a heavy metal band and theyr extremeli influential download am i demon and mother u might laugh wen u 1st hear it but his voice is incredibli strong and he has liek an elvesi voice over heavy metal riffs. ( btw james from metallica does backing vocals on both) i havent heard u man so i cant judge but everything comes with practice so i recomend u getin a vocal coach if its mereli no practice. and musik is subjective uknow Smiley one person mite find somethin good wile another does not.

well iam a vocal and umm singing is something very cool but its also hard which mean voice chord is like a guitar strings u have to tune it u cant play in a gig and u r guitar or bass is not tunned right? tunning u r voice is really easy if u wanna do it just find anyone that plays a keyboard ok and tell him to teach u scales and try to reach u r highest tone and stop ok then the next time u will do it u will find a bit easier then the time befor it till u get it with no damn effort then take the next scale.
Hint: vocaling scale cant be more then 10 min a day
and guys begad i use to smoke like u and stuff and that effected me alot begad i got screwed.
last thing water and yansoon this are the best before any jamming or a gig one day one of u will come and tell me u r right by the way iam a clean vocal and brutal

well, there IS something else, actually!
it's called.... singing along!
here's how it's done:
first, you turn up the volume of your sound system, and actually sing along with the track you wanna sing! the first time won't always be great, but, it's a sign that you need to practice!
then, as you get better at that particular track, you LOWER the volume of the track so you can hear your own voice CLEARLY, therefore being able to notice if you have any bad notes(nowat nashaz ya3ni)!(pm me if you need any excercises on improving bad notes alright?)
then, after a while, you'll be able to sing the track perfectly(as long as you warm up, pm me if you want any warm-up exercises as well)! warming up is very important, cuz like haythem said, your voice is like an instrument, so treat it like one! polish it(STOP FUCKING SMOKING/DRINK YANSOON...etc.), tune it(vocal exercises) and so on...

you can use an acoustic guitar tuner also for practicing like the keyboard but that will be for holdin steady notes so you know well how much you can reach singing the samenote without goin out of it but with scales keyboards or an acoustic guitar can help with this we er7amo el car el 3'albana  lol about brutal vocals you should also do the same coz theoreticaly(dont know how to spell lol) a brutal distorted vocalist is like a distorted guitar but it also goes on notes and scales just listen to bands like opeth and eternal tears of sorrow mainly the finnish and the swedish schools of death and goth metal you will find out that they use notes like any other instruments unlike old school black metal they hardly ever use it except for eyronemes of mayhem he uses it sometimes and varg from burzum and the dude from dimmu borgir

A vocal teacher once told me that that is the exact thing you should AVOID. NEVER sing along to tracks, almost all of your possible errors can be masked by the running song, find an instrumental version of the song (Hell, even use Midi) and sing along to THAT, NOT the original track.

I read extensively into smoking and its effect on voice, smoking CHANGES your voice, not nessecerily in a bad way though, so if you like gritty voices filled with "heat" (like Creed's) sometimes smoking warps the voice that way. But it does cut down on your breath like a katana so watch out. Drinking has almost no effect though, excluding general health of course.

One more thing
Always record yourself singing and listen to it, wether you;re singing alone or along to some instrument(s), chances are YOU are the most well-versed about your own voice and how it works, so you might be your own vocal trainer, just a thought, since that's how i improved my singing (And that's considering i HATE my voice, i've come a long way with that method, like never going out of key [nashaz] and adding heat ).

mustaine, that vocal teacher has a point! i know perfectly well that singin along should be avoided, only if you can't hear your voice(ie, the stereo's volume is higher than yours)!that's why i made it clear that you should lower the volume as you practice! see, you can't really sing a song if you don't know the notes, can you? that's why you should sing along, NOT so that you can be able to sing it PERFECTLY of course(vocal exercises and recording, like you said, would help you accomplish perfection, i KNOW), but to give you an idea of WHERE you need to work in the track! for example, i sing along with stapp in "my sacrifice"...and , as the chorus starts, i KNOW that i need to work on, say, a bad note! that becomes clear when you lower the volume, therefore making YOUR voice audible, not his!
but yes, getting the instrumental track(or using karaoke on your sound system...that helps out a LOT  Wink ) would definitely help you get it RIGHT...i mean like PERFECT!
(besides, man, some people can't get down the vocal lines by ear, so, they can't really know whether they're out of tune or not! so that really helps them, don't you think?)

thnx man.. i wanna add some advicese ok vocaling need exrcisese too like running or going to the gym or playing soccer with u r friends or basketball any thing that makes u breath and the most imp sport which make u u r breath very good swimming coz swimming makes u take u r breath right and diving too becoz of the water pressure and btw that helps all the smokers that cannot quit.but alteast try to dcrease the amount of cigs u smoke perday and u guys will see the diff.u guys always before the jamming or u r gig u have to worm up and there is a good sires that makes u learn how to do that if anyone wants a help tell me or need the link drinking alot of hot stuff like aries which is yansoon or cinmon its very good and mint guys stay away from lemmon begad it effect the voice chord like hell becoz it has alllooooooooooooot od vitmens c which makes the voice chord get infection

one last tip:brutal vocaling with all its kind dosn't effect the voice chord at all if u sing right which means it dosn't effect ur clean vocaling non brutal, scream what ever trust me i asked and i mis neven 3loba if anyone knows here if u don't shes the best one in egypt sings sprano and shes a vocal teacher if u guys have any quest just go ahead and ask Smiley

hmmm...judging by the name of the DVD, i trust that this only gives you tips on brutal/screaming vocals and stuff?
umm, guys, i was talking about CLEAN vocals! and especially vocals which are pretty hard to reach (eg. very high notes or even very low ones)! see, singing along, while gradually decreasing the volume of the sound system, gives you the strength AND the ability to reach those high notes! for example, did anyone listen to "iron maiden-the reincarnation of benjamin breeg"? if you did, listen to the part where he says "reincarnate still in me, live agaiiiiiiiiiiiiin"! i wouldn't have been able to get that part(sounds like he's fucking flying man, TOO hard) if i haven't sung along MANY times with the actual track! this stuff takes time, you gotta remember that! it's gonna take you a LOT of time, so just hang in there! Wink

Hi,

1st-i'd like to say to the guy training as if he was a concert that's bullshit.

2nd-The art of a vocalist is to be seen a flame of fire on stage but inside takecare u must be an icecube that's hard. to show what u have trained (not many can understand me the ones really training and performing hot shows know)

3rd-brutal vocaling negatively effect the clean high notes(u must be knowing that ya haytham because u use lower notes in the wet brutal sound)mesh shart bas beye7sal kteer

4th-The keyboards is used as a harmonizer we kaman 7aga tefakkarak bel note wenta betel3ab 3ala el stage  bas ma7addesh yenker en feeh nas kteer betetdarrab beeh (for mr i believe in tuners we sa3at kteer el bass guitar mfeed m3aya sha7'seyan who knows me will know why).

i think u know i can get brutal and clean easily but what i'm saying is that brutal can be soooo differnt from another the more u get energy to ur brutal voice the more u hurt ur vocal chords so u have to be ware to get the 2 tones right and harmless plus i suggest to go on with keybords chromatictly i mean note by note so as not to get out of tone.
Hope the best for all Wink

ill share wat i know get any musical instrument and play a certain not and get it with ur voice till its as pure and easy as possible then play the higher note and so on but if u feel one is so hard to go into go to the previous note and stay rather more singing it and then take a deep breath and take it out as slow as possible on the letter f and s ....and wats more important play songs on ur pc get earphones and a mic and sing with it then listen to ur singing and fix ur mistakes ..n dnt sing for one band all the time try not to imitate someones voice try creating ur own style

First of all...gr8 topic Cheesy  I do alot of my training myself, it's just a matter of knowing what you're looking for and paying close attention to what works and what doesn't.  For example, before performing it helps me to drink hot tea with lemon in it.....after performing I use honey in my tea to soothe.  Not saying this will help anyone else, but it works for me Wink  but for all the other stuff: changing pitch and holding the notes longer..that kinda thing is done with practice...oh and about not being able to smoke/drink and still have good vocals...that's sooooo not true...do ya think that all those professionals are sitting at home every night drinking lemonade ??   Roll Eyes

I wish you all the best of luck ...and if ya have something recorded that you'd like me to give my opinion of I would love to  Cool

Hugs and kisses,

'Chelle <3

well !!   Every Singer has their own unique style, sound and tone which is worth studying. Watching and listening to
the way a professional singer performs provides an insight into the techniques used, but you could spend years
trying to emulate the top vocalists or favourite artist. If you intend to be a "tribute" act or have a natural
similarity to an existing artist, studying them will be an essential part of your rehearsal program, but to really
benefit from your voice, you should concentrate on developing your own natural vocal abilities and style.  Wink
