Cause I’ve been pondering this ...
 
If you had to pick, what, according to your opinion (this is not a quiz so no need to crib  Tongue), is the number one single feature that constitutes the ‘deathness’ in death metal?
 
And I apologize if this topic has been covered before, but I am new here and didn’t quite finish reading all the old topics.

None of the above its the mood of the song the groovy riffs and beats the gore in the vocals the harmonic oriental solos the speed of percussions isnt necessary.and Mory i don't think that information you said is correct.

Did you even know that there is a demo by Possessed having that name ? wala you think that Death Metal was named after Death ?
 
Chuck Schuldiner once denied that in an interview in the mid. 90's..

i dont think jus one of em could do it, what seperates death metal( at least to me) apart from say black/deathcore/grind/goregrind...or anything else is a combination of all of the things one the list, i think of it more as the general aura of obliteration,anhiliation and utter brutal chaotic misanthrope.
